Coming soon to a TV near you: Urbana Public Television wants to broadcast Uni events, and you can help

AT SCHOOLS MUCH larger than Uni High, an in-house television station is not unusual.

Now Uni might be joining the TV ranks in its own way.

Urbana Public Television — the local public access channel — has approached the school about broadcasting Uni events.

According to Athletic Director Sally Walker, the broadcasts might start as soon as Jan. 31, with the Senior Night girls basketball game between the Illineks and Normal Calvary Baptist.

This would be followed by the Feb. 5 and 6 boys basketball games against DeLand-Weldon and Georgetown Notre Dame LaSalette, respectively. The Feb. 6 game is Senior Night for the boys.

"In order for that to happen we will need the help of Uni students," Walker said in a schoolwide e-mail sent late this afternoon. "So if there are any Uni students who are interested in either working behind the camera or mic, we have a great opportunity for you."

According to Walker, the training would be done on the job with help from UPTV staff. No experience is necessary.

Anyone interested in volunteering to help with the broadcasts should contact Walker at swalker6@uni.uiuc.edu.
