DECATUR — The Uni girls varsity basketball team edged to within one game of .500 Monday night with a 61-45 victory over host Decatur Christian.
The conference win raises the Illineks' record to 11-12 overall, 8-3 in the East Central Illinois Conference.
The team has just one game left before the Class 2A playoffs begin next week: Thursday's Senior Night contest against ECIC opponent Normal Calvary Baptist at Kenney Gym.
If the girls win that game, they would finish the regular season 12-12 for the second year in a row, an impressive accomplishment after starting the season 2-8.

They would also finish conference play 9-3, Uni's best ECIC record since 2004-05, when the Illineks went 9-1 and shared the title with Decatur Lutheran.
Last season, Uni finished 8-4 in the ECIC to place third behind Normal Calvary (9-3) and champion Decatur Lutheran (12-0). The defending champs have already clinched another title this season.
In Monday's game, the Illineks outscored the Warriors 17-6 in the second quarter to build a 30-15 halftime lead.
That was the decisive stretch, as the teams played each other almost even in the second half (31-30 in Uni's favor).
Senior guard Aran Yoo led the Illineks with 16 points and 5 steals. Junior post player Rachel Skoza was right behind with 15. Skoza was a force on the boards, pulling in 16 rebounds.
Karen Woodley, a senior, had 8 rebounds, followed by junior Jessi Sullivan and senior Ruthie Welch with 7 each. Welch led the team with 6 assists.
The loss dropped the Warriors to 8-12, 4-7. They were led by Keirstyn Spangler's 22 points, which included five 3-pointers.
Next Monday the Illineks will face Georgetown-Ridge Farm in the first round of the Class 2A playoffs. The game will begin 6 p.m at St. Thomas More High School in Champaign.
This is the first year that the IHSA has divided schools into four classes for girls basketball. A single class was used through 1979. The division of schools into small (Class A) and large (Class AA) lasted from 1980 to 2007.
Uni is seeded ninth in the 11-team Sub-Sectional B of the Bloomington Central Catholic bracket. Georgetown-Ridge Farm is seeded seventh.
The two teams played earlier this season when the Lady Buffs defeated Uni 51-29 at the McDonald's Comet Classic on Nov. 20.
If the Illineks pull off the upset, they would play second-seeded Monticello on Feb. 7. That game would begin at 6 p.m., also at regional host St. Thomas More.
In the meantime, Uni has a bit of unfinished business: sending out seniors Aran Yoo, Sarah Pfander, Ruth Welch, Karen Woodley, Marika Iyer, Angie Jin, and Samantha Nguyen as winners in their final home game. Senior Night will begin 6 p.m. Thursday at Kenney Gym.
