Published: Monday, February 4, 2008 - 11:26am
CHAMPAIGN — Despite 18 points and 7 rebounds from senior Karen Woodley, Uni couldn’t pull out a win at Judah Christian in a 42-33 loss.
At the time, the loss dropped Uni to 9-12 overall, 6-3 in the ECIC. Uni is currently 12-12 overall and 9-3 in the conference.
The Illineks stayed with the Tribe in the first half, ending the first quarter tied at 11, and ending the half only down 18-17.
The game was still up for grabs after the third quarter, with the Tribe extending their narrow lead to 28-24, but the Illineks couldn’t manage a comeback in the fourth quarter.
Junior Rachel Skoza was one of only five Illineks to score on the evening – adding 10 points, 10 rebounds, and 3 steals. No other Illinek scored more than 2 points on the evening. Sophomore Michelle Wong and senior Sarah Pfander each contributed 3 assists.
Senior Aran Yoo and Junior Jesse Sullivan did not play for the Illineks. The two would combine for 18.3 points per game over the next three games.
Uni will play Georgetown-Ridge Farm tonight in the first round of the IHSA Class 2A playoffs. The game begins at 6 p.m. at St. Thomas More
This is the first year that the IHSA has divided schools into four classes for girls basketball. A single class was used through 1979. The division of schools into small (Class A) and large (Class AA) lasted from 1980 to 2007.
Uni is seeded ninth in the 11-team Sub-Sectional B of the Bloomington Central Catholic bracket. Georgetown-Ridge Farm is seeded seventh.
The two teams played earlier this season when the Lady Buffs defeated Uni 51-29 at the McDonald's Comet Classic on Nov. 20.
If the Illineks win tonight, they will play second-seeded Monticello on Thursday. That game would begin at 6 p.m., also at St. Thomas More.
