Free movie night to replace Valentine's Day dance

"ROBIN HOOD: MEN IN TIGHTS"

  • What: All-school movie night
  • When: 7 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 14
  • Where: Uni Gym
  • How much: Free
  • Why: Who needs a dance to celebrate Valentine's Day?

ON VALENTINE'S DAY the senior class will sponsor an all-school movie night in place of the previously scheduled dance.

The 1993 Mel Brooks comedy “Robin Hood: Men in Tights” will play in Uni Gym beginning at 7 p.m., and the entire movie night is estimated to end around 10. Admission and snacks will be free.

Since this event follows so closely behind Saturday’s United for Uganda lock-in and dance, Student Council decided Thursday to host a movie night instead.

While the Valentine's Day dance was also scheduled from 7 to 10, an hour earlier than usual for dances, officers thought students might be more willing to go to a movie night on a school day than a dance.

Usually all-school functions such as movie nights and dances are not held during the school week. However, school is only a half day this Friday, with registration for subfreshmen through juniors in the morning, and an all-class meeting for the seniors.

Student Council recommended bringing pillows and blankets to provide additional comfort to the seating in Uni Gym.

In a schoolwide e-mail sent Thursday, the vice-president of the senior class, Zoë Schein, announced the movie night.

“Bring your sweetie(s), bring your friend(s), bring your imaginary friend(s),” Schein said in her message, “and get ready for the most important evening of your life.”
