Freshman Alan Kessler pitched a complete-game shutout Thursday as Uni defeated host Decatur Christian 14-0 in a varsity game.

The victory raised the team's record to 1-6 overall and 1-1 in the East Central Illinois Conference. Uni has played two games against JV teams (Urbana and Champaign Central), so the Illineks' record against varsity competition is 1-4.

Besides Kessler's stellar performance on the mound, sophomore Mike Renner came through big at the plate, hitting two home runs.

The Illineks visit Gibson City-Melvin-Sibley on Monday for a 4:30 p.m. matchup against the Falcons' JV squad.
