StumbleUpon

Usually, the word “stumble” reminds me of tripping over some rocks, or attempting to walk in a straight line after spinning in a chair.

Recently, though, I found a Web site called StumbleUpon, which has much less painful associations. StumbleUpon helps you find awesome Web sites based on your interests.

As the site explains: “Channel surf the Internet with the StumbleUpon toolbar to find great Web sites, videos, photos and more based on your interests. StumbleUpon learns what you like and makes better recommendations.”

So, every time you click on “Stumble!” in your toolbar, it takes you to a different site that you might find interesting.

After you sign up, you can choose and edit your interests from a list of check boxes. Some of the ones I checked include “Animals,” “Fashion,” “Music,” and “Photography.”

In all, I’ve checked 71 interests.

Plus, it automatically refines your interests based on a thumbs-up and -down system.

If you really like the Web site you’re on, you can click the thumbs-up icon, and StumbleUpon will use that information. There is also a thumbs-down icon in case there’s a site you don’t particularly like.

You can also create a profile, and see what other users have found. Everything is simple to use, and you can completely personalize the toolbar to your liking!

Some of the best sites I’ve discovered include Musicovery, Detrave Hangout, and Interactive Autopsy.

I’m sure there are plenty more great sites to discover, because I’ve only had StumbleUpon for a few days.

I highly recommend it to everyone.

Whether you’re looking for a quick laugh or for some interesting facts, there’s always something amazing online. StumbleUpon just makes it infinitely easier to find your new favorite site!
