While I may be more sympathetic than you think, I would question why the Western Cannon has a monopoly on "universal themes that all humans share." Inferring Asian literature speaks only to Asian cultures would suggest Western literature speaks only to Eurocentric cultures, which is not what you intend, I think. Thanks for raising the issue, though, in another forum.
