The freshman class will head to the Allerton 4-H Memorial Camp on Wednesday for its highly anticipated three-day field trip.

Although there was some controversy earlier this year regarding the trip, health teacher and trip organizer DeeDee Wright believes that things are looking good.

“Everything is going smoothly and it seems like everyone is really excited,” Wright said. “Back in the fall, there was a lot of discussion, but I think it's just because this is a new thing and nobody knows what to expect.”

The students will have academic classes, participate in a service project, and take part in various leadership development activities. They will stay in cabins overnight Wednesday and Thursday. Faculty and parent volunteers will serve as chaperones.

Freshman Isaac Chambers, who proposed the trip and did much of the initial planning, said he believes his classmates have become more positive toward the trip as time has gone by.

For his part, Chambers is enthusiastic about the next three days.

“I'm stoked,” he commented. “It should be a great experience for students to not only learn in a new environment but to take a break from the regular daily schedule and have a blast.”

Below is the schedule that the freshman class will follow during the trip, which is being called the “Allerton Educational Experience.”
