Baseball: Mike Renner leads Uni to third win of season

Uni evened its East Central Illinois Conference record on Friday with an 8-4 victory over Buckley Christ Lutheran.
The visiting Illineks were led by sophomore Mike Renner, who pitched a complete game.
The varsity win raises Uni's conference mark to 2-2. The team is 3-9 overall (varsity and JV foes combined) and 2-6 in varsity action.
Next up: The Illineks host ECIC opponent Decatur Christian on Tuesday at the Knights of Columbus Field in Rantoul. The game is scheduled to begin at 4:30 p.m.
Uni defeated Decatur Christian 14-0 in a road game on April 13.
To get to Uni's home field:
- Turn off I-57 at the Rantoul exit.
- Go east toward Rantoul.
- Turn left (north) on Route 45 (Century Boulevard).
- Go past St. Malachy's Catholic Church and turn left (north) on Cambell Street.
- Cross the railroad tracks and turn north (right) on Ohio Street (first street after the tracks).
- Follow Ohio Street north about one-eighth of a mile. The field will be on your right.

In other baseball news, the IHSA has released its Class A playoff assignments. Uni will compete in the 24-team Tolono (Unity) sectional. The Illineks are seeded 24th.
Uni will begin postseason action on May 16 in the Farmer City (Blue Ridge) regional. The team will visit 11th-seeded Fisher in a first-round game. Fisher defeated Uni 7-0 on April 8.
