THE END OF the school year must be getting close, because the awards are starting to pour in.
Four Uni seniors will be honored at the annual Kiwanis Youth Recognition Luncheon later this month:
The luncheon, sponsored by the Champaign-Urbana Noon Kiwanis Club, will be held from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. May 15 at the Round Barn Center in Champaign.
The club annually recognizes seniors in Champaign-Urbana, selected by their high schools, for both academic and extracurricular achievements.
Director/Principal Steve Epperson will also attend the event. He will introduce the students and discuss their accomplishments. The students will also be given the opportunity to share their plans for next year.
The Uni seniors will join representatives from other C-U high schools. The club invites local schools to select four of their seniors for the honor.
One of Uni's Kiwanis honorees — Rachel Hurley — has also been selected as the school's recipient of the Junior League of Champaign-Urbana's annual community service award.
Each year the Junior League recognizes a senior female student from each of the Champaign-Urbana high schools. Hurley was selected for her strong commitment to volunteerism.
The Junior League is celebrating its 75th anniversary of community service.
