Minoans - remember the Minotaur. If you don't know the Greek myth, he/it was the child of the Queen of Crete and a bull, which a jealous god (I think Zeus) made her fall in love with as a form of punishment against her husband, King Minos of Crete. Her child was the Minotaur, which Minos couldn't kill because killing him would bring about the wrath of the gods, so he had Daedalus build a great maze in the bottom of the castle and he would force city-states to give him seven boys and girls to him to feed to the Minotaur (half man, head of a bull, and I think feet of a bull) - which ultimately led to the Minotaur's death.
(There is a little truth to the story, such as the existence of the maze.)
