BRIDGEVIEW — Isaac Radnitzer, Uni's award-winning varsity goalkeeper, will be recognized this summer for being named to the Chicago Fire's Boys Soccer All-State All-Academic Team.
Radnitzer was one of only 86 student-athletes to be selected for All-State All-Academic honors. The University of Illinois-bound senior was named Special Mention, one of just 33 players to make second team. Twenty-three players were designated First Team, and 30 were named Honorable Mention (the equivalent of third team).
High school coaches around the state could nominate senior student-athletes for consideration. According to the Fire, the players needed a grade-point average of B or higher. Other requirements for nominees: at least three seasons of contributing to their high school soccer program and involvement in at least two other school or community extracurricular activities.
All members of the All-State All-Academic Team will be invited to a Fire match in late June or early July at Toyota Park, where they will receive special recognition on the field.
Radnitzer had an outstanding senior season, recording 10 shutouts as the Illineks went 13-9-1 and came within one win of advancing to the eight-team Class A state tournament. Three of his shutouts were in the playoffs.
He has won many honors, including the team award for "Most Intense." He was also named to the East Central Illinois Conference All-Conference Team (unanimous pick) and The News-Gazette's All-Area Second Team. He received the IHSSCA All-Sectional Highest Vote for Class A Keeper.
