I know that a lot of people hate these, but I actually enjoy Christopher Paolini's trilogy (soon to be four book series). Also, I LOVE Harry Potter books.
Princess Academy, by Shannon Hale, is AMAZING. To say the least. Also by S.H., Goose Girl (and sequels) are great.
Stargirl (Jerry Spinelli) is cute, but don't read the sequel.
The Molly Moon books (Georgia Byng) are good too. I thought they were too young, but they're actually really good.
Michelle, I too like the Twilight books. And they ARE hard to describe.
One that you might not have heard of: The Various, Celendine, and the-third-one-whose-title-I-can't-remember, by Steve Augard. They're about these little people who live in this wood that is going to be cut down, and a girl who's trying to save them. I know it might sound like a princessy/fairy book, but the people aren't really fairies. Not even faeries (the cooler kind).
And finally Ender's Game (and Ender's Shadow too). No comment needed, I bet.
I'm Sorry, But
