Girls soccer: Uni loses final home game of season

Sophomore Suran Yoo ended Uni's three-game scoreless streak with her seventh goal of the season, but that wasn't enough as Warrensburg-Latham defeated the Illineks 3-1 Thursday in the team's final home game of the year.
The visiting Cardinals scored five minutes into the first half. Junior goalie Mandy Grill again kept the Illineks in the game, making 12 saves before halftime. Uni got off three shots on goal. Grill finished the afternoon with 21 saves.
In the second half, W-L added two more goals. Yoo, shaking off the effects of a knee injury, scored with 15:25 left in the game, with an assist from junior Eleanor Unsworth. The goal was Uni's first in three games and only the 15th in 16 outings (seven of the goals came in an April 7 victory over Judah Christian). The team's varsity record drops to 3-13.
Uni has two more regular-season games left, both on the road, before playoff action begins. The girls travel to Decatur Lutheran for a 4:30 p.m. varsity match on Monday. They end the regular season Wednesday against Champaign Central.
Warrensburg-Latham is the No. 1 seed in Uni's Class A sectional. The girls will compete in the Decatur St. Teresa bracket, where they will face Decatur Lutheran on May 16 at 4 p.m.
If the Illineks win that game, two days later they would face the winner of the May 15 Judah Christian-Decatur St. Teresa match.
