So much for those extra hours of sleep.

The current 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. early-dismissal schedule for days when faculty meetings take place will remain in effect next year.

The faculty voted Friday on the possibility of changing to a 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. schedule on shortened days. The votes were counted at lunch today, and the result was to keep the status quo, according to Director/Principal Kassie Patton.

Four faculty meeting days are scheduled for next year. Teachers voted on three proposed courses of action:

• Continue the current policy (8-2, with faculty meetings after school).
• Establish a trial year in which all faculty meeting days would follow the 10-4 schedule (meetings would begin at 8).
• Establish a trial year in which half the meeting days would follow the 10-4 schedule and half would continue with the 8-2 schedule.

According to Patton, the status quo was the top preference with 13 votes, followed by the “half and half” option with 10 votes, and the late start with five.

Back in April, teachers discussed the possibility of changing the shortened-day schedule. They again raised the subject during a brief faculty meeting on May 5 as preparation for Friday's vote.

The issue was raised last week at the regular meeting of the Student-Faculty Advisory Committee. Uni parents also voiced their opinions via e-mail. Students at SFAC favored the compromise plan, while parental e-mail responses ran heavily in favor of the status quo.
