Meet the candidates: Class of 2010
Posted Monday, May 22, 2006, The OG, news
The current subfreshmen through juniors will elect their 2006-07 officers on Tuesday during English classes. Below are the Class of 2010 candidates for president, vice president, secretary/treasurer, and SFAC representative. Student Council gave us permission to post their bios, which candidates were required to submit. We are publishing the bios without making any editing changes for grammar, punctuation, style, etc. Candidates are presented in alphabetical order.
President
SINDHA AGHA
My name is Sindha Agha (yes, I realize you know this by now) and I am running for class president. I think I would be good for this position because while I am hard working, determined, and good at
communicating, I also know what we students want and I am ready for a more student-oriented student government. I do not want to be dictator of our class, I want to represent our class. If I were
class president, the first thing I would do is plan more events. Yeah that means you all get to see a whole ton of fruit loops go down Arnav's throat… And then come back up again… Sometimes dances
can be a little upperclassmen dominated. I think having some freshman-only dances with music, food, and movies would be a good way to raise funds and to hang out. And, since I know everyone loves free food, I would make more functions like the Winter Surprise Party. I would also like to plan more field trips, like the one to Allerton the freshmen took this year (I would like to plan one to Chicago..). One thing I think class officers need to start doing is communicating with the administration better. I'd make sure our SFAC representative would communicate well with the administration, so that students and staff can come to terms. Alright… That's all the rambling I have in me… So: vote for me?
“kthx”.
ALEXX ENGLES
No political administration is perfect. Look at Abe Lincoln. Some are downright, for lack of less indecent language, incompetent. Look at George W. Bush. Others may be adulterous. Take Bill Clinton as an example of that. But some of us will do our best to achieve perfection. As the Freshman Class President, I promise to take my office seriously. I am uniquely suited to hold this position due to my charm, organizational skills, dedication, and enthusiasm.
Have we had one movie night uniquely for our class this year? No. I can offer you movie nights, dances, fundraisers, and so much more with your vote. Uni High apparently cultivates a desire for free food which is something that we can all enjoy much more of next year. I refuse to give false expectations and make promises that I cannot uphold. I will hold the best interests of my comrades at heart. I promise not to support terrorists, 51st states, dictators, country singers, or Temperance. I am
Alexx Engles, and I want to be your next President.
MARIA GAO
My name is Maria Gao. I am in the Class of 2010 and I would like to run for class president. I think that I would be a great president because I have all the leadership and orginazational skills needed for this high and important position. Subfreshmen year has been a fun roller coaster ride. Meeting new friends and getting to know Uni were just two things that the class of 2010 went through. Now, as everyone is comfortable at Uni, I want to plan activities that are fun and educational to my class. I believe that I could make the ideas of the people in my class into reality. This position is very important and it requires dedication and time that I am more than willing to give.
ELIZABETH RUSSELL
I would like to be Freshman President next year because I have lots of good ideas to offer. I think I can well represent the class. If elected president, I will aim to ask students what they want brought up in
meetings and keep students more updated about what is going on in student council.
HORACE WANG
I believe that I would make a good president because I look into the future, what is good for the class of 2010 in the long run. If I am elected, I will push for reforms within the school to better improve the
learning environment of the school. When I came to Uni, I expected the school to be a closer school, but the animosity between classes and people is very high, I will work to remove these barriers to make the school have a better learning environment.
Vice President
CHUMIN GAO
Hola! I am Chumin Gao, Class of 2010, and I'm running for Vice President. I am an organized, dedicated person who is usually on top of everything. I am friendly, cooperative, and responsible. In addition, I am honest and I do speak my mind whether or not you'll like it. I think that student council should interact more with students so that the people that aren't in StudCo can also be more informed and involved in decisions. If I am voted VP, I plan on having more dances and movie nights, pizza sales to raise money, and to help organize a better X-Week. I would be willing to listen to people's suggestions, open them up for discussion, and compromise with them. I hope to represent you guys as the Vice President next year, and I would appreciate your vote for me. Thanks!
LINDA LY
My name is Linda Ly, and I am running for Freshman Vice President. In Subbie year, I was Vice-President of the class, so I know how everything goes. Subbie year was a good year for me to experience how Student Council worked. You may have even seen me running back and forth around
the school and on 3rd floor trying to finish work for Student Council, and that shows how dedicated I am to my commitments. Now that I have experience, I feel like it's time for me to use my experiences to help the Freshman class as Vice President.
As Vice President, I would try and create more opportunities for the Freshman class to raise money with pizza sales, dances, X-Week etc. and also try to make for activities for the class. Since I have experience with planning dances and X-Week, I know which mistakes to avoid and what to do once again. I would also help the President with projects and help the Secretary/Treasurer with their responsibilities.
CHEYENNE STEWART
My name is Cheyenne Stewart and I'm running for Freshmen Vice President. I want to contribute to our class, and make their ideas reality. I'm a very social person, and I will work well with other representatives. I am creative, dedicated, and determined to make freshmen year fun and productive. I'm interested in what our class would like to do, and I would like to organize more events. More movie nights, trips, sales, and other various activities and ways of raising money would spice up our freshmen year. Feel free to talk to me about what you would like for freshmen year, or ask me about what I have planned. If elected, I would help make it an interesting and exciting year for the class of 2010.
BEN SUSLICK
Dear Class of 2010,
I am Ben Suslick. I am running for Vice President and I believe in strong leadership, which will provide our class with all it needs. I am organized and will give the class whatever I can to make our Freshman year the best ever at Uni. I am good with numbers, which will help us make our class able to have more fun activities to enjoy.
I will organize fun activities that we will all enjoy, school dances, for example. I will make our class experience great so we will have a fun Freshman year for all of us to enjoy. I hope we all have a great
year, and if you vote for me I believe that we will have a great year.
Secretary/Treasurer
AMY DING
Hey, I'm Amy. I want to get a little experience with student council and I think that I would be a good addition to the team. It is my plan to try to keep next year fun and I will pass on any suggestions. I hope that you will give me a chance and vote for me. :)
DANNY GE
You all know me as Danny Ge. I believe that I would make a great secretary/treasurer because I am very organized and I have previous experience. Who always has an extra pencil for you in class? Who never loses any group or individual work? Who never forgets his French book or any other book for that matter? I am the answer to all of these questions. These facts all assert my organization and responsibility. Also, in 5th grade, I was one of two 5th graders chosen to represent the class in
Student Council. I ran for treasurer and was elected. I was chosen for a reason and I assure you that it won't be a mistake to vote for me.
HADLEY HAUSER
I'm Hadley Hauser, and I want to be your Secretary-Treasurer! As our Subbie year draws to a close, our thoughts turn to the inevitable: Freshman year. I would like to take an active role in shaping our class'
impact on this school, and going through the Student Council is the most direct way to achieve this. As Secretary-Treasurer, I'll offer the steady discipline that the position requires. I'm organized (feel free to take a peek inside my locker!), I'm punctual, and I'm cooperative. I want to be part of the responsibility behind the fun at our school, and also add a little fun to the responsibility! I face my day-to-day challenges with enthusiasm, and I hope to bring this energy to the next level by focusing
on your ideas and concerns, and voicing your opinions directly to the Student Council. Thanks for your vote!
MARITZA MESTRE
Hi guys! I'm running for Secretary-Treasurer. If I am elected I will work hard to organize more events and fundraisers for our class. It is important to raise money early, so that we don't have to scramble Senior year. I am good for this position because I am responsible, trustworthy, proactive, and will work hard to keep our class running efficiently. Organization is one of my best skills. One time in class we were talking about skills and everyone turned to me and said, “Maritza a skill of yours' is organization.” It is important for the Secretary-Treasurer to be on top of things. Along with the other representatives, I will be able to work together to benefit our class in the best way possible. Whatever
issue you want us to work on I will help to solve. I will work together with the other officers to capably solve problems and organize events.
Student-Faculty Advisory Committee (SFAC) Representative
KATHERINE ALLEN
It's election time again and everybody is obsessing over who's voting for whom, and who's running for what. I have discussed with many people what jobs in student council we would be good for, and so far, everybody I have spoken to said I would do well in SFAC. It's kind of nice to know that people think I'm fit for the job, especially since that's the one I was interested in. Still am, actually. I want to do SFAC because I'm willing to represent you guys, and, as cheesy as it sounds, I want to. I want to
make sure that everybody in the class of 2010 stays at least moderately happy through the course of our freshman year. I can't control the homework level, but I can help make our class better in other ways.
Thanks everybody!
LAURA DRIPPS
Hi! My name is Laura Dripps and I want to be your SFAC representative for Freshmen Year. I think that I am the most expirienced cannidate for the job since I was the SFAC person for this year. I believe that students should have an important say in making the policies of this school as fair and effective as possible. I would hope to try and make rules around here slightly more easy-going, like revising the 3 strikes cheating policy currently in place, and making it slightly less strict. That's why i think
you should vote for me.
