The current subfreshmen through juniors will elect their 2006-07 officers on Tuesday during English classes. Below are the Class of 2009 candidates for president, vice president, secretary/treasurer, and SFAC representative. Student Council gave us permission to post their bios, which candidates were required to submit. We are publishing the bios without making any editing changes for grammar, punctuation, style, etc. Candidates are presented in alphabetical order.

President

JASMINE ALVARADO
My name is Jasmine Alvarado. I'm a freshman and running for president of my class. I served as secretary/ treasurer this year for the freshman class. I have also had two years of previous Student Council experience. I would make a great president for our future sophomore class because I am
well organized and I get the job done. I believe I am an excellent person to represent our class. I also listen to the ideas of fellow classmates for activities. I will make sure that everything next year will be done correctly and in good time. This is why I am running for president of our future sophomore class.

ISAAC M. CHAMBERS (Sorry… my middle name isn't as cool as “Gupta”)
I'm running for president. I have some great ideas for next year. If I'm elected class president I will work hard to make sure sophomore year is an awesome year.

What does this mean for you?

1) I am open to everybody's ideas. You got a good idea? I'll definitely be willing to work with you and the class on that idea. The class will be a part of the decision making process every step of the way. Class officers work for the class — the class does not work for the class officers.

2) Creative and effective fundraisers that raise funds so we can do awesome things. Fundraising in our next three year of high school will be more and more important, especially for things like senior trip, prom, etc. If we get our act together on class fundraising, we will have more options for our senior trip and prom.

3) Awesome things including but not limited to more movie nights and other activities such as renting a movie theater or bowling alley, awesome dances, a trip to turkey run (not required, just for fun, probably on a weekend because I don't want to get the teachers too mad at me), and almost anything our class can afford that we want to do. The sophomores class is in charge of Winter Formal, the second biggest dance of the year, and I think we can make it great.

4) Working on school-wide activities and issues that need to be addressed/improved.

5) One specific idea I had was making a commemorative photo album or movie of next year. If this is something the class is interested in, StudCo could work on arranging this, and anybody in the class who's interested could work on it.

I would appreciate your vote — and I promise you that I'll work very hard to make our sophomore year a sophomore year to remember.

KAREEM SAYEGH
Hi. My name is Kareem Sayegh. You might know my name. I just sent you an email about running for Vice President. I changed my mind due to a suggestion from another classmate. I have run for Class President the past two years.

For some reason or other I haven't been elected into this office.

I understand you might have been a little tired on the days of electing your class officials.

Or maybe I don't have friends.

What I would like to say, is that I am running for President again this year. I feel I would make a great President. I have a high energy level that can be put to use to work hard. I am creative and can think up great ideas for class get-togethers.

I also have a great understanding of the school handbook due to my disciplinary issues with the school. This deep understanding of school rules can help me find out the best way to milk the administrative breast to get the most out of our Sophomore year.

I feel as if people of all shapes, sizes, colors, and dialects can come together this year and vote Kareem for President.

P.S. VOTE KAREEM FOR PRESIDENT

Vice President

ALAN LIANG
Dear Mr. or Ms. Friend,

My name is Alan Liang and I am running for the Vice President position of the 2006-2007 sophomore class. If I am elected, I will perform my job to the best of my abilities.

I WILL listen to your ideas. However, I cannot guarantee that your ideas will be put into effect.

I WILL try to improve movie nights, dances, sales, etc.

I WILL attend all of the Student Council Meetings unless there are conflicts in which I must be absent.

I WILL try to make your life livable next year. However, for some of you, I know that this will not be possible.

NO, I WILL NOT leave you uninformed. I will try to get all student council messages out to you as soon as possible.

NO, I WILL NOT cry if I am not elected.

NO, I WILL NOT care if your pet dies.

Well…maybe a little bit.

Please consider voting for me as your Vice President for the 2006-2007 sophomore class.

Secretary/Treasurer

JASON HE
Hi, my name is Jason He. I would love to have the opportunity to serve as Secretary/Treasurer for our class. As all secretary/treasurers should be, I am responsible and organized, and if elected I promise to be very dedicated to this position. I hope that you vote for me. Thank you.

NATSUKI NAKAMURA
I, Natsuki Nakamura, am running for secretary/treasurer. I am running for this position because I want our class to be able to accomplish a lot next year. I am organized and would be sure to fulfill the duties required for our class to have a great sophomore year.

Thanks.

NISH NOOKALA
Hey guys, I am Nish Nookala and I am running for Sophomore 2006-2007 Class Secretary-Treasurer. I became interested in this position after seeing past class officers handle it so tactfully. I believe that I am a qualified candidate with a lot of ambition for any future plans for our class. I believe I can save our class more money to use on any future outings that we may have. This will free up the need for any of us to pay much money for any class trips we take. I believe I have all it takes to become your secretary-treasurer. I promise that I will try my hardest at making everyone in our class have a voice in any class decision. After all, our class officers represent the class, and are not free to make any decisions they want. Finally, I hope that you guys trust me enough to elect me your class secretary-treasurer.

Student-Faculty Advisory Committee (SFAC) Representative

KAROLINA KALBARCZYK
I am Karolina Kalbarczyk and I think I would be a good SFAC representative for the sophomore “Class of 2009.” In 6th grade, I was part of a group called peer mediation in which I helped resolve problems between students. I often had some really good ideas to resolve conflicts. With this experience I believe that as a SFAC member I can help not just my fellow sophomores, but also the entire school (as well as generations to come in later years).

I have served on SFAC these past years and I would like to once more. It will mean a lot to me to make a difference and help others.
