Meet the candidates: Class of 2008
Posted Monday, May 22, 2006, The OG, news
The current subfreshmen through juniors will elect their 2006-07 officers on Tuesday during English classes. Below are the Class of 2008 candidates for president, vice president, secretary/treasurer, and SFAC representative. Student Council gave us permission to post their bios, which candidates were required to submit. We are publishing the bios without making any editing changes for grammar, punctuation, style, etc. Candidates are presented in alphabetical order.
President
MICAH BERMAN
Hello! I'm Micah Berman, and I'm running for Junior class president! I believe that we've had a successful year as a class, and would love to continue to lead our class next year. This year, Ranny, Shara and I organized a number of successful movie nights. We polled class members on ideas for events, and as a result hosted an all-class picnic that was a blast! You had a lot of valuable ideas for class activates, ranging from a trip to Six Flags or a Paintballing excursion to a video scavenger hunt
or a trip to the Ice Arena. Some said that the Winter Formal dance, organized by our class, was one of the best in recent Uni history. I have one year of student council experience behind me, which I believe to be a valuable asset. Though I quickly learned the ropes this year, I will hit the ground running next year and be able to get the ball rolling quickly on other class functions that you suggested. Planning prom, one of the tasks that always falls to the Junior class, sounds like a good
challenge to me. I believe that I have the organizational, collaborative and people-skills to make the 2007 prom lots of fun for everyone. As your class president, I would work with the other class representatives to not only organize a highly enjoyable prom, but also to host some class functions based on the input that we received this year. I enjoy working with the Uni community, and I would love the chance to serve you for the 2006-2007 school year as your class president!
CHELSEA FREELAND
My name is Chelsea Freeland and I want to be your class president for Junior Year. I know everyone is studying for finals, but take a moment to listen to what I have to say. I am an organized, and responsible member of the (now) sophomore class. I am fun and energetic, and full of good ideas for improving your quality of life for next year! I want next year to be as fun as possible, and will make that happen if you elect me. So, I hope you make the right choice and vote for me for Junior Class
President!
Vice President
TJ BOZADA
Dear Fellow Almost-Juniors
I, TJ Bozada, would like to be your 2006-07 vice presidents. Many of you think that I am a relaxed person who does not put forth any effort. This is not true; I just appear to do things effortless. The truth is that I would out forth maximum effort to make our junior year one of remembrance. I will be sure to plan many social activities to continue and even enhance our sense of class unity. Also, our junior year is one of importance, this upcoming year we will be in charge of Prom. I will be sure to raise enough money to make prom and post-prom a night that you will never forget. To be honest, the main reason that I am running is to make sure that our prom is the best yet.
So for 2006-07, vote TJ Bozada for Vice-President.
MICHELLE GAO
The position of class vice president is important, and I think that the class of 2008 needs someone new and original to fill that spot. During the past year, we have had more class-bonding activities, but I think that we need even more. In addition, I know that I would be able to bring fresh ideas to student council to be considered. I would also listen to and carefully consider anyone's suggestions, and implement them as best as I could. I would try to represent our class as a whole, and not let my own ideas get in the way. I would truly act for the best interest of our entire class, and I hope that you vote for me!
RANNY MA
You all know me as Ranny. But I go by many names. Ronaldo, Randy Mas, Rans, and Ranniero. In addition to have a diverse and substantial collection of nomenclature for myself, I have, in the past year, worked with my fellow Stud Co officers, Micah Berman and Shara Esbenshade to bring you a juicy array of fun, creative and fresh social events for your enjoyment. The good news is: sophomore year was just the beginning. Re-elect me, and you'll have an experienced, capable, and dedicated V.P. who will continue the great work started last year. Anyone else in the V.P. position will waste valuable time being brought up to speed and may not have methods compatible with the existing progress made in the quest to serve you. Make the right choice — vote Ronaldo for Vice President. With me in office, you as a Uni student might still have 99 problems, but a V.P. ain't one. This is Ranny Ma, wishing you a good night, and a pleasant tomorrow. Jea.
SARAH PFANDER
I know that every year people running for class office tell you the same thing. I'm organized, I can make this year better, I can make things happen, I'm so cool. But I'm going to be straight with you. I'm sort of organized, but not really. I technically have no student council experience. I would like to make junior year better for everyone, and have a lot of fun class functions. But let's face it, I certainly have no desire to force us all into the same room and have some class-bonding time, and I know you probably don't want that either. So this is what I propose, fun. Next year could be a lot of fun, and I am all about fun. Yea, we have to take the SAT and the ACT and visit colleges and stress out about the future, but we can also party. And party we will. I think that we can host a really good prom, and I think it is imperative that we come up with a new X-Week activity because the balloons are getting old. I also think that we can eat a lot of free pizza, and do new and exciting things. But, I'm also not one to be intimidated, so I will stand up and speak up for our class.
And now comes the cheesy campaign slogan: Vote for fun, vote for Sarah!
Secretary-Treasurer
SHARA ESBENSHADE
Dear Juniors-to-be,
I would like to be your secretary/treasurer for the year of 07. I am motivated, organized, and dedicated to this class. I've been sec/treas. for the past year and have learned a lot about how student council works, but would like to see student council do a lot more, considering the surplus of money we have. I'm enthusiastic about planning an awesome prom next year, and hope to plan more class functions, especially community service projects. Several of you asked me about the possibility of going on a class trip like the one the freshmen took this year to Allerton. If elected, I will definitely work to make a similar trip happen next year. We work hard, junior year is gonna be stressful, and we will deserve and need it. I can't wait to represent you next year and continue the work Micah, Ranny, & I have been doing this year to keep this class active, bonded, and enjoying our high school years. Have a great summer guys!
Student-Faculty Advisory Committee (SFAC) Representative
EUNICE HOW
I'm running for SFAC (Student Faculty Advisory Committee) officer for the class of 2008 for the 06-07 year. I was the SFAC officer for the past three years, and co-president of the S4BW (Students for a Better World) club. In addition, I was a member of the student council in Jefferson Middle School for 02-03. I am also on a youth leadership committee in my church, which helps to plan events and activities. I know how the Uni system works and have helped to determine policies for the elevator,
lockers, tardies, and parking. This year, I helped write a Honor Code. I also believe I am a responsible, hardworking, and organized person who will represent my class well.
