Al Renner, Josie Chambers honored as athletes of the year

Seniors Al Renner and Josie Chambers were named Uni's athletes of the year at the annual spring athletic awards ceremony held Tuesday night at Loomis Lab.

Renner led the baseball team in batting average (.577) and RBIs (12) this season and was the leading scorer on the boys soccer team. He finished his basketball career as Uni's all-time points leader.

Chambers, who also won the annual Tom Jolly Spirit of Uni Award, anchored the Class A girls sectional champion 3,200-meter relay team, which finished 12th in the state. In the fall, she also helped lead the volleyball team to its best record since 1996.
