Five years of hard work paid off Saturday for the 60 members of the Class of 2006 as they became the latest edition of Uni graduates. Commencement was held at the Tryon Festival Theatre, Krannert Center for the Performing Arts. Ben Sims and Batia Snir delivered the student welcome and farewell addresses respectively. History teacher Bill Sutton gave the commencement address, and physics teacher James “Ray” Carrubba gave the benediction. Historian Peter Stearns, a 1953 Uni graduate who is provost and chief academic officer of George Mason University, received the Max Beberman Distinguished Alumni Award. Junior Devika Bagchi spent time with the seniors before the ceremony and captured their anticipation as they awaited the cue to make their entrance.
