URBANA — Overcoming a halftime tie, the Uni boys varsity soccer team defeated the Decatur Lutheran Lions at home 4-1 Tuesday. The Illineks' season record is now 11-0 overall, 3-0 in the East Central Illinois Conference.
The Lions were quick to strike their lone goal, netting it within the first few minutes of the game. Despite dominating play, Uni needed until the last few minutes of the first half to score, when senior Martin Granick converted the equalizer for the Illineks.
The Illineks fared better in the second half, with three different players scoring.
“We stepped up our level of play completely,” senior Daniel Ito said.
In the second half, junior Jake Seeley scored first, with seniors Michael Belmont and Jeremy Pillow netting Uni's third and fourth goals, respectively. Belmont continues to lead the Illineks in goals with a new season total of 17.
Uni has outscored its opponents this year 60-9.
The Illineks return to DCR fields Thursday to face Champaign Central, a team that defeated Uni 6-0 last year and 1-0 in 2004.
