CATLIN — For the first time since upsetting Champaign Central two weeks ago, the Uni boys varsity soccer team won a game, defeating Salt Fork 2-0 today.

The victory raises the Illineks' record to 13-3-1, just two shy of the season-best mark for wins set by the 2004 and 2005 teams.

Head coach Billl DeJarnette experimented with his lineup in the hopes of getting the Illineks out of their four-game winless streak. The second string started the game and played for about half of it, with the usual starters playing the rest of the time. Both groups played about 20 minutes per half.

Senior Jeremy Pilllow scored on a penalty kick (earned by junior Jake Seeley), and senior Michael Belmont scored unassisted about 10 minutes after that. The goal was Belmont's 21st of the season. Both goals were scored in the first half.

Junior goalkeeper Isaac Radnitzer played the entire game, posting Uni's sixth shutout of the year.

“Even when our starters were in, our lineup was mixed around a little bit to try new combinations after our recent slump,” Belmont said. “We played decently for the rest of the game, but had a hard time creating chances on such a small field. It was nice to sort of relax, win again, and get a rest for the starters.”

The varsity will travel Tuesday to Normal Calvary Baptist for its next game.
