SIX OF the 14 Uni musicians selected for all-district performances by the Illinois Music Educators Association will continue on to all-state performances in January. The honorees are:

Chorus
— Ethan Berl, junior, tenor I
— Daisy Hassani, senior, soprano II
— Paige Martin, senior, alto II

Orchestra
— Alex Cahill, senior, double bass
— Jennifer Roloff, junior, oboe
— Lucy Zhang, junior, violin II

Last year, 17 Uni performers were selected for all-district honors, and of them six went on to all-state, including this year's honorees Cahill, Hassani, and Zhang.

These musicians originally auditioned for the district competition Oct. 9, with an all-district jazz festival Nov. 4 and a festival for the other groups Nov. 18. The top performers from these first auditions were then nominated for the all-state competition.

Berl, Hassani and Martin, as part of the chorus, will not have to audition again for their place at all-state, but Cahill, Roloff, and Zhang will have to go through the audition process another time.

From there, they will be placed in either the honors or all-state group depending upon their performance in their audition, with the highest-placing musicians being in the honors section.

The musicians will perform in the IMEA 2007 all-state music conference, which is scheduled for Jan. 24-27 in Peoria. Fine arts executive teacher Rick Murphy, past president of the IMEA, is head of Uni's music program.
