Imagine being able to help underprivileged kids just by getting a haircut. That's what 36 people did Sunday at Allen Residence Hall when they participated in the Locks of Love “hair-a-thon.”

Participants donated at least 10 inches of their hair to be used in making prosthetic hairpieces for children who have lost their own hair, many due to a medical condition called alopecia areata. The planning for Sunday's event was led by Uni juniors Krista Olson, Beckaa Wallig, and Amelia Breault.

“It was great,” Olson commented. “There were a lot of college students there, which was a pleasant surprise.”

The donors included one Uni student, junior Tanya Kostochka. In addition to the 36 on-site donations, the group received donations from eight other people who got their hair cut off-site, resulting in a total of 44 donations.

I thought that locks of love was for cancer when I donated(I have donated twice). Ah well, if it's for a good cause, it's great!
