As Assistant Director Sue Kovacs calls up the seniors and English teacher Suzanne Linder reads their farewell comments, the soon-to-be graduates come to the Tryon Festival Theatre stage Saturday afternoon to receive their diplomas from Director/Principal Kassie Patton. They take the opportunity to say goodbye to Patton, Kovacs, and Linder as well as history teacher William Sutton, the commencement speaker, and physics teacher James “Ray” Carrubba, the benediction speaker. As they depart the stage, history teacher Chris Butler presents each of them with a rose. Then a festive bout of cap-tossing signifies the beginning of life after Uni for the Class of 2006. A video produced by Daniel Jacobs gives each class member a chance to shine on the big screen, after which Carrubba delivers the benediction and Batia Snir gives the student farewell. To the sound of “Such Great Heights” by Postal Service, the Class of 2006 files out of Tryon and into the Krannert Center lobby, where refreshments and proud family members await.
