Audio slideshow: Halloween dance with a Spanish twist

THIS YEAR'S HALLOWEEN dance had a Spanish flavor thanks to Uni's El Club, which hosted Carnaval in Uni Gym. The Latin-inspired event took place Saturday, Oct. 27, from 8 to 11 p.m. The gym was decorated with sparkling lights and bright colors, and scores of costume-clad students danced the night away.

El Club members and their sponsor, Spanish teacher Jenna Finch, arrived at 5:30 p.m. to set things up. They sectioned off the gym with a volleyball net draped with different colored cloths to make the scene more intimate. They proceeded to stripe the walls with more of the brightly colored cloths, and they finished the decor with strings of white and electric blue lights along the perimeter of the area.

The doors opened at 8, and club members welcomed many enthusiastic students in different guises, from butterflies to Tootsie Rolls.

The theme of the dance, Carnaval, meant a mix of music from salsa and Latin-infused hip-hop to crowd favorites like Soulja Boy's "Crank Dat" and "Macarena." Senior DJs Micah Berman and Julian Hartman kept the night rockin'.

The dance ended at 11 with one final playing of "Crank Dat." With all proceeds from the dance benefiting a New Orleans school still recovering from Hurricane Katrina, the night was a great success.
