UNI'S ANNUAL FUNDRAISER for charity, X-Week, took place May 5 to 10. This year's charity was Urbana-Champaign Books to Prisoners.

The week began with a dance-off in Uni Gym, at which the student dance crew Tempe Fugi performed to the Black Eyed Peas' "Hey Mama." Two members of the crew, juniors Alan Liang and Kareem Sayegh, also competed with fellow junior Caroline Brown in the actual dance-off.

X-Week continued May 6 with a talent show and May 8 with the senior auction, both events also taking place in Uni Gym. The traditional water-balloon toss was scheduled for May 7 but was delayed a week due to rain.

Capping off the week was Big Show '08, with performances on May 9 and 10 in the packed North Attic Playhouse.

In all, X-Week '08 raised $1,621 for Books to Prisoners, according to school accountant Lisa Castor. Big Show was responsible for $1,241 of that amount. However, the total should rise in the coming week or so as more money comes in from the senior auction, Castor said.

This year's auction has raised $340 so far. Student Council executive secretary/treasurer Shara Esbenshade told Castor she expects that amount to increase. Last year's auction raised $474, and X-Week '07 as a whole raised $1,713.
