Uni won second place at the IHSA state tournament Saturday, April 26, at Eastern Illinois University. Clockwise from bottom left: junior Avanti Chajed (yearbook theme development), senior Chris Nixon (third place, feature photography), senior Kumars Salehi (second place, review writing), senior Michelle Gao (third place, yearbook copy writing), junior Isaac Chambers (info graphics and newspaper design), and sophomore Linda Ly (third place, yearbook layout). Team members not pictured: senior Jie Han (copy editing) and sophomore Chris Yoder (first place, sports writing). Uni finished with 23 points at state, behind only Palatine Fremd High School (28). Fremd and Uni were the only teams to score more than 20 points. Sixty-seven schools competed. There were no divisions according to enrollment. The tournament consisted of 15 events in which students had to complete various journalism assignments on deadline. Yoder is the first Uni student to win a state title in an IHSA journalism event.
