Sophomore Tianna Pittenger looks absolutely fabulous as she makes her entrance to the 2008 Uni High prom, "The Royal Masquerade." Prom was held at the Alice Campbell Alumni Center in Urbana from 8:30 to 11:45 p.m. Saturday, May 17. Organized by the Class of 2009, the event added yet another chapter to the book of memorable Uni prom nights. In all, 119 students attended, of whom about 40 percent came wearing masks in the spirit of the theme, according to junior class president Isaac Chambers. An iPod Touch drawing was held for those who wore a mask; junior Teddy Zamora-Mills was the lucky winner. Royalty consisted of seniors Isaac Radnitzer and Eunice How, king and queen, and juniors Russell Prochaska and Sheri Grill, prince and princess. This year's event was notable for several prom firsts. Thanks to Chambers, RSVPs were done online instead of through the mail, saving at least $150 in postage. In addition, two students catered prom — juniors Hannah Leskosky and Maddy Levin, who did so for their independent study on cookery. In 2007, catering took a good $1,500 from the prom committee's budget. This year only $400 had to be spent renting out an industrial kitchen and paying for food supplies. After prom was over, students were on their own, since there was no organized post-prom this year. Somehow students managed to make do, and all in all it was a busy, fun, and all-too-short night for Uni promgoers.
