Video: In their words — Eunice How on her parents moving to China

RUN TIME — 5:09

THREE WEEKS AGO we published the first video in our series “In their words,” in which senior Jake Seeley spoke about being Quaker.

Today we continue the series with a video on senior Eunice How. She talks about her decision to stay here for her final year of high school while her parents live in China. Along the way, she highlights what life is like living with another family as well as her own family's love of moving.

How did our project come about? A year ago the Gargoyle editors found inspiration in The Washington Post's “onBeing” video series, which consists of short clips of individuals speaking about their lives and the things that they find significant.

In creating our own videos, we've tried to keep in mind the philosophy behind “onBeing.” The Post features regular people who lead ordinary lives but who also bring to life what it means “to be.” Artfully created and strikingly moving, “onBeing”'s snapshots of humanity help people connect through the medium of online journalism.

Applying this idea to Uni, we ask students to speak for a few minutes about topics that they are passionate about, in the hope that our already tightly knit community will grow tighter as we learn more about each other.
