Chess team wins title, finishes regular season undefeated

Published Tuesday, Jan. 24, 2006, Gargoyle, student awards

On Jan. 7, the Uni chess team won first place at the 2006 Illini Classic. The squad finished ahead of Barrington and Glenbard South, two teams that had placed in the top 10 at the IHSA state finals last year. Uni ended the 2005-06 regular season with a record of 18-0-1. The Illineks are aiming to improve on the 13th-place finish they earned at last year's IHSA meet. The team is hoping to get into the top five at the state tourney, which will be held Feb. 10-11 in Peoria.
