Two Uni students win News-Gazette carrier scholarships
Posted Tuesday March 14, 2006, The OG, student awards
Rain or shine, warm or cold, no matter the weather, The News-Gazette always manages to make it to its subscribers' doors. All of this is due to the hard work of The News-Gazette's carriers, and two Uni students have been honored as winners of $500 carrier scholarships awarded by the paper: senior George Gu, who has served as a carrier since 2000, and sophomore Daniel McNamara, who has served since 2003.
Rules of the competition stated that applicants had to be 15 years or older and must have been in service as a carrier to The News-Gazette for at least two years. They were judged on their quality of service as a carrier, activities, awards, scholastic ability, and the quality of a composition. Along with that, participants had to submit at least three letters of recommendation, one of which had to be from a customer on their route.
The scholarships will be awarded to the winners when there is proof that they are enrolled in a qualifying college.
