Ladies and gentlemen, dust off your top hats and gloves and put on your dancing shoes. This year's prom theme is “The Silver Screen.”

Nostalgic images of Hollywood actors and actresses from days past will fill the ballroom of the Champaign Country Club for Uni's prom, which will be held May 20 from 8:30 to 11:45 p.m. The Country Club is located at 1211 S. Prospect Ave.

“I hope people will show up in their razzle-dazzle finery,” said junior class president Krista Olson.

Tickets are $30 for singles and $50 for couples.

There are only six weeks left until prom, so don't forget to turn in your RSVPs. They are due with payment this Friday and can be turned in at the Student Services Office. You can pay cash or make checks payable to the University of Illinois.

For a change of pace, post-prom activities will be held at the University of Illinois Campus Rec Center-East (CRCE, pronounced “sir-see”). Amenities of the facility include a pool, water slide, hot tub, and courts for volleyball and basketball. There is also a lounge area for watching movies and snacking. CRCE is located at 1102 W. Gregory Drive, Urbana.

Post prom has traditionally been held in students' homes, but according to Tina Fehrenbacher, post-prom organizer and mother of senior Annie Fehrenbacher, there were reservations about this arrangement.

“A group of concerned parents this year wanted to cut down on the after-curfew driving from house to house,” Fehrenbacher said. “Also, some students felt excluded from these house parties.”

Last year's prom was held at Worden-Martin in Champaign. The theme was also movie-related: “For Your Eyes Only,” a nod to James Bond.
