Senior Josh Mitchell has been named a National Achievement Semifinalist in the National Achievement Scholarship Program, a competition for scholarships among black American high school students.

The NASP is run by the National Merit Scholarship Corporation. About 130,000 students enter the NASP, and fewer than 5,000 are recognized. About 3,000 are referred to colleges, while only 1,600 students become semifinalists.

Senior Sharajonnie Adams was recognized as an Outstanding Participant in the same competition.

Another senior, Tony Costa, has received Honorable Mention in the College Board National Hispanic Recognition Program, a competition similar to the NASP. More than 175,000 Hispanic students entered this program; Costa was among the top 4,700. These students will be referred to universities nationwide.
