Steve Epperson named interim director/principal

DR. STEVE EPPERSON, a former Uni High math teacher and administrator, has been named interim director/principal for the 2007-08 school year.

Epperson replaces Kassie Patton, who stepped down as director/principal in late July after four years on the job.

“Dr. Epperson brings a wealth of experience and is no stranger to Uni High,” said Associate Provost Keith Marshall in an Aug. 10 e-mail announcing the appointment. “The Office of the Provost is pleased to have such a skilled and experienced administrator to serve as interim during this transitional period.”

Epperson introduced himself to students, faculty, and parents at the school’s orientation picnic, held Saturday at Crystal Lake Park in Urbana.

After spending more than 10 years as a math teacher in LeRoy, Epperson moved to Uni in 1986. He taught math, then was named acting director in 1991.

Since leaving Uni, Epperson has worked as principal of Tremont High School and superintendent of the Tri-Valley and Roselle school districts. He has a doctorate in educational administration from the University of Illinois.

According to Marshall, the Provost’s Office “will consult with Uni faculty, staff, students and parents on how best to proceed with a national search to secure a permanent principal and director."
