Skate the night away

IT SEEMS AS though Uni will never have a normal November dance.

For the past three years the “Turkey Trot,” the dance in November, has been canceled. This year, the junior class and Student Council are hosting an ice skating party instead of a dance.

ICE SKATING PARTY

  • When: Sat., Nov. 17, 8:15-10:30 p.m.
  • Where: Ice Arena
  • How much: $3 at door, $2 pre-sale
  • Sponsors: Student Council, junior class

“The junior class officers wanted to do this because it's a good alternative to dances, which are really pretty lame anyways since they aren't well-attended,” said junior class president Isaac Chambers. “I want to keep having student events.”

The party will take place Saturday at the University of Illinois Ice Arena, 406 E. Armory Ave., Champaign. Though students are not allowed on the ice until 8:30 p.m., they are welcome to arrive at the rink earlier to pick up skates and warm up in the lobby. The party will end at 10:30.

Tickets cost $3 at the door and $2 pre-sale (this includes the price of the skates). Pre-sale tickets will be sold this week during lunch in the hallways.

In addition, students are welcome to bring guests, but they must purchase tickets for the guests at the door. Guests must arrive with the Uni student who invited them.

“Ice skating should hopefully be something exciting and new because it’s a different school-bonding activity,” said Student Council president Micah Berman. “I personally think it will be fun, and I hope other people will feel the same.”
