IF YOU HAPPENED to be at Uni High between 5 and 7 p.m. Wednesday, you would have seen plenty of familiar faces from Uni's recent past.
That's when the annual alumni pizza party took place. Graduates from the last five years as well as current seniors and faculty members were invited.
The turnout was excellent as alums filled the lounge, kitchen, and first-floor hallway.
"Everyone was really happy," said senior Anna Cangellaris, who estimated the attendance at close to 100 people. "It was great to catch up with all the alumni and talk to old friends."
Marilyn Upah-Bant, Uni's former director of alumni relations, originated the pizza party as a fun way for recent graduates to stay in touch with each other before their first formal class reunion.
This year, besides eating lots of Papa Del's pizza and getting the latest news about each other, the young alums took a brief tour of the newly renovated Uni Gym.
According to librarian Frances Harris, meeting past students can come with a few surprises.
“The guys change a lot physically,” she said.
This was the first year that Upah-Bant's successor, Karen Cooley, organized the party, a project she enjoyed.
“I felt it was great and important for recent alums to get back together,” she said.
