A RUMOR HAS been going around that there won’t be senior trip this year. Some have been saying the administration is refusing involvement due to student behavior on trips past.
The truth? False alarm — the trip is on.
“I don’t know where that rumor started,” said class president Aran Yoo.
The senior class officers have been planning the trip since late September and have secured the logistics of the getaway.
The Uni High Class of 2008 will be trekking up and over to the Wisconsin Dells during the extended weekend of Feb. 29 to March 3 for waterpark frolicking, skiing adventures, and home-cooked goodness in the suites the students will be staying in.
Last year's seniors went to the Dells from March 2 to 5.
In a sense, though, the trip-cancellation rumor was understandable.
The tradition of the senior trip has been upheld and eagerly anticipated by Uni students in their turn since the 1990s and has usually been planned by the senior class in conjunction with the Parent-Faculty Organization.
However, in recent years, under the administration of former Director/Principal Kassie Patton, the senior trip had been planned through the school. This year, the school will not take part in the planning or organization of the trip. According to Assistant Director Sue Kovacs, the senior trip poses too much of a liability for the school to be as directly involved as it had been.
The minimal involvement of the administration in this year’s trip won’t hinder the advancement of the seniors' plans.
The senior officers and the PFO will be finalizing details and making reservations well in advance of the trip, and by all indications the Class of 2008 can plan on a relaxing, fun-filled weekend in the Dells.
