URBANA — Uni Gym was packed first thing Wednesday morning as the 2008-09 school year began with the traditional all-school assembly. Director Steve Epperson and Assistant Director Sue Kovacs welcomed the 300-plus students. They briefly talked about some of the changes Uni has undergone in recent months, including renovations in the main building and the installation of a proxy card system.

Student Council executive president Isaac Chambers also addressed the crowd, reminding everyone about the first school dance of the year, Friday night's Howdy Hop. Students gave new math teacher Warren Buck a round of applause as he was introduced, and everyone was able to get to class in time for the 8:20 a.m. starting bell.
