Early morning fire destroys historic building, shuts down section of downtown Champaign

CHAMPAIGN — The 1870s-era Metropolitan Building caught on fire early Friday morning, collapsing under the flames. No injuries have been reported. Several streets leading to the heart of downtown were closed to traffic.
