Biking for a good cause: S4BW to hold community ride Saturday for A Woman's Fund

Students for a Better World has organized its third community bike ride in the last 12 months for A Woman's Fund, an umbrella organization that provides rape crisis services and a shelter for women escaping from domestic violence. The latest event will take place Saturday morning, with riders departing from Lincoln Square Mall between 8 a.m. and noon. Check inside for details.

S4BW dinner on Friday to benefit school in New Orleans

[AUDIO included] Students for a Better World will host a benefit dinner on Friday to raise money for an elementary school in New Orleans. The event will feature Cajun food, live jazz music, and a food auction. About 120 people are expected to attend.

At the heart of the protest: An account of Chicago's anti-war demonstration

Eight Uni students made the journey up to Chicago on Saturday to take part in an anti-war demonstration that drew crowds from eight Midwestern states. The protest was one of 11 that occurred in major cities across the nation, all part of a mass anti-war movement. Sindha Agha was there, and she brought back this report.

Who cares about social justice? Lots of students, and you can meet them at One Club

Uni has long had many clubs devoted to community service and social justice. But keeping track of their activities was sometimes difficult, and the lack of coordination at times resulted in overlapping efforts. To help improve communication among these groups, Student Council has come up with "One Club" — lunchtime meetings of Uni's activist community. One Club's next meeting is set for Tuesday. Topics to be discussed will include the fate of Uni tradition X-Week.
