Finding it again on the Internet: Uni librarian Frances Harris to revise book with help of students

[AUDIO included] Frances Jacobson Harris has been the Uni librarian since 1987. Drawing on her experience, she came out with a book three years ago, "I Found It on the Internet: Coming of Age Online," which deals with teens and the Internet. Now she is working on a second edition, with research help from history department head Billy Vaughn's anthropology class.

New semester brings changes to English department

Two-thirds of the sophomores have a new English teacher as the spring semester begins. Matt Mitchell, husband of English department head Elizabeth Majerus, is taking the third quarter off to care for the couple's infant daughter, Ruby Majerus Mitchell. Rosemary Laughlin, who taught full time at Uni from 1986 to 2003, takes over for Mitchell, making this the fourth time she's come out of retirement to help the department.

Back where she belongs: Suslick returns after emergency medical leave

In late September, English teacher Adele Suslick was hospitalized for a ruptured appendix. Her condition was severe enough that she was gone from Uni for almost two months. Now she's back and as active as ever.

Sally Walker named to Umpire Hall of Fame

Students know Sally Walker as the head of Uni athletics and physical education. But she's also one of the top softball umpires around. The Illinois Coaches Association has now recognized her accomplishments by selecting her for one of its highest honors.

As Suslick recovers, English department welcomes two substitutes

English teacher Adele Suslick, who won the 2007 Colin E. Thorn Award for her many voluntary activities on behalf of Uni High, will be out for five to six weeks as she recovers from a burst appendix. While she is gone, former Uni English teacher Rosemary Laughlin will come out of retirement for a second time and teach Suslick's class on Asian-American literature. Jeremiah Roberts-Stanley, who teaches part time at Champaign Central, will take over for Suslick's freshman English classes.
