X-Week

X-Week '08: Are you ready for a dance-off?

New events, old favorites highlight fundraising week for UC Books to Prisoners

The first-ever X-Week dance-off will get things rolling Monday during lunch for six days of fundraising. This year's events will benefit the Urbana-Champaign Books to Prisoners program. All the old favorites will be back: water balloon tosses, senior auction, and, of course, Big Show. But this year there will also be a talent show and an opportunity for hands-on volunteer activities.

Spirit Week '08 begins Monday; to feature new events

If it's the last week in January, it must be Spirit Week. This year the Uni tradition returns with several new events to go along with dress-up days and the all-school assembly. In addition, the girls basketball team will celebrate Senior Night at Kenney Gym Thursday against Normal Calvary, and the boys will host the same school on Friday.

Uni traditions of Spirit Week, X-Week to remain separate after all

This year the charity fundraiser known as X-Week was going to be combined with Spirit Week from Jan. 28 to Feb. 1. But at today's Student Council meeting, members concluded there wasn't enough time left to plan X-Week activities. Check inside for more. [UPDATED]

Who cares about social justice? Lots of students, and you can meet them at One Club

Uni has long had many clubs devoted to community service and social justice. But keeping track of their activities was sometimes difficult, and the lack of coordination at times resulted in overlapping efforts. To help improve communication among these groups, Student Council has come up with "One Club" — lunchtime meetings of Uni's activist community. One Club's next meeting is set for Tuesday. Topics to be discussed will include the fate of Uni tradition X-Week.
