College Decisions
Having to just sit around and wait is one of the worst feelings in the world. Now that seniors have finally heard from colleges, they can stop worrying.
-
Graduation
We seniors have had a fun time at Uni, but don't think we aren't ready to leave. One more month and we are gone. So long, everyone!
-
Prom
Everybody looks forward to the best dance of the year, and it's almost here. Now we can all rush to get fancy clothes and prepare for the big night. You underclassmen don't know what you're missing.
-
Big Show 2008
This student-written production is always entertaining and beyond funny. With the directing in the capable hands of seniors Anna Cangellaris and Eunice How, we can all expect first-rate sketch comedy to appear in the North Attic Playhouse the nights of May 9-10.
-
X-Week
What could be better than fun activities that all raise money for charity? A week of fun for a good cause awaits us May 5-9, topped off with Big Show and the senior auction, two perennial sources of excellent entertainment.
-
Allerton Experience
Last week's freshman overnight trip to Allerton went swimmingly — earthquake and all. Congratulations to the students and to health teacher Andi Phillips, who oversaw the trip, as well as to the chaperones who volunteered their time. And a tip of the hat to Isaac Chambers, the originator of it all.
-
Malcolm Taylor
The junior track star is turning heads all over East Central Illinois. Whether he's doing the 800-meter run (in which he set a school record on Tuesday and defeated one of the state's top runners April 18 at the Unity Invite), the 400 dash (in which he's already clocked a state-qualifying time), or the 4x800 relay (in which his presence as anchor psychs out all opponents), Taylor is a sight to behold. Do yourself a favor and check out one of Uni's meets before the season ends.
-
New couches in the lounge
The lounge has had a recent surge of new inanimate inhabitants, and all are extremely squishy and comfortable. Thanks, Ms. Kovacs — we don't know where you get the couches, but they are greatly appreciated.
-
Ebertfest
Ebertfest has arrived! Wednesday night was nirvana for Shakespeare fans: Kenneth Branagh's four-hour version of "Hamlet." Thursday was topped off by an amazing film about a family struggling with mental illness: "Canvas," starring the great Joe Pantoliano (Ralphie from "The Sopranos," Cypher from "The Matrix," Guido the Killer Pimp from "Risky Business"), who held court in person after the movie. The remaining three days promise to be just as good. So get thee to the Virginia! The only downside this year: Urbana native Roger Ebert can't attend because he broke his hip.

-
Post-Prom Problems
We realize that post-prom can be fun. Unfortunately, it's starting to resemble the Uni equivalent of a detention camp: students go in, but they don't come out … until 6 a.m. No exceptions. Give us a little credit, please. We should at least have the possibility of free movement, as well as structured activity.
-
The Dreaded 5K
With the end of the year in sight, the 5K looms ever closer. We know we’ve been "preparing" for this all year, but come on. There's nothing better to do on a Saturday morning in May?
-
AP Tests
Now that we've learned a lot of information, it's time to put it to the test. However, do the tests have to be this frightening and difficult? And since Uni doesn't really offer AP classes, some students have had to study like crazy on their own time.
-
College Decisions
Yes, this was also a cheer, but it's not all fun and games. Now that we know where we got in (or didn't), we have to make the difficult decision of where to commit.
-
Senioritis
Yeah, yeah … students have been complaining about senioritis all year (and it's not only the seniors). But it's fourth quarter now, and nothing seems to be worth any effort.

Comments
Cheers and Jeers
Michelle and Carl,
Always great fun to see the Cheers and Jeers, so cheers to you both. Jeers as well, though, for not knowing your jailers. Uni has nothing to do with Post Prom for liability reasons. That activity is run by parents, and, according to recent emails, is non-existent this year.
Cheers!
S. Rayburn
