illness

Playing catch-up

When I walk around Uni, I see and hear students coughing and sneezing at every corner. Uni has legendary abilities of passing illnesses around. One day earlier this year it was rumored that 75 students were absent.

I believe that many sick students can be seen at Uni because they are afraid to miss school because of what they have to go through when they return.

Column: MRSA means no more sharing

Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus, better known as MRSA, has received national attention in recent weeks after a federal report estimated that the staph bacteria are responsible for almost 19,000 deaths a year, more than AIDS. Schools have been closed in Connecticut, Maryland, North Carolina, Ohio, and Virginia to allow cleaning crews to disinfect buses, lockers, and classrooms. Student deaths from the bacteria were reported in Mississippi, New Hampshire, and Virginia. Maritza Mestre looks at the impact of MRSA on daily life here at Uni.

Welcome to the season of sneezes and sniffles

Ready your masks and tissues everyone, the colds are coming!

Having been sick for the past week and a half with a nasty cold, cough, and sneezes, I can tell you that it's so much fun being sick — just in case you've never caught a cold or other related disease. I haven't been hit with the pukes or shivers, though that may change soon, seeing as my brother now has that bug.
