MAHOMET — The Uni boys varsity soccer team beat host Mahomet-Seymour 2-0 today to go 5-0 for the first time in years.

The Illineks struck first in the middle of the first half as Jeremy Pillow battled into the box and drew a foul, winning a penalty kick that fellow senior Michael Belmont converted for his team-leading sixth goal of the season. Right before the half ended, a goal by senior Chandra Pathuri was called back in a controversial offside call.

At that point the game was far from won. A fierce battle ensued in the second half that could have gone either way, but Uni's defense and midfield held strong. With minutes left, senior Martin Granick recorded his fourth assist of the season when he flicked a Belmont pass from the midfield on to junior Jake Seeley, who went on to score the insurance goal. It was Seeley's second goal of the year.

Junior goalies Isaac Radnitzer and Michael Renner shared the shutout. Each played half the game. The shutout was Uni's third of the season.

With the loss, Mahomet-Seymour declines to 0-4. The Illineks will host Fisher 4:30 p.m. Tuesday at DCR fields in a rematch of Saturday's Soccer Shootout title game.
