Girls volleyball: Uni edges Normal Calvary

NORMAL — The Uni girls varsity volleyball team remained unbeaten in conference play Tuesday night, winning a close match at Normal Calvary Baptist Academy.
The Illineks won their first game 25-20, had a close loss in the second game 21-25, and won the decisive game 25-23.
Sophomore Rachel Skoza racked up six kills, followed by senior Mandy Grill and sophomore Jessi Sullivan with four kills each.
Four Illineks recorded one block each, and junior Ruthie Welch led the team with 20 assists.
Grill and sophomore Annie Machesky had nine and six digs respectively. Grill led the way with six aces, followed by Welch and Sullivan with three aces apiece.
The victory raises the Illineks' record to 5-9 overall and 3-0 in the East Central Illinois Conference. The girls have two more matches this week, hosting Fisher Thursday and traveling to Deland-Weldon Friday.
In JV action, Uni defeated Normal Calvary Baptist 25-11, 19-25, 25-9. The win improves the JV record to 2-2 overall and 2-0 in the ECIC.
