CHAMPAIGN — The Uni High Stingrays lost to Central, Centennial, and Urbana at the Twin City Meet Tuesday at the Centennial Unit 4 Pool.

Central won the meet with 508 points, followed by Centennial (423), which swept all three relays.

Uni was in third place about halfway through the meet, ahead of Urbana by roughly 20 points. However, Urbana overtook Uni near the end and placed third (221), a mere 13 points ahead of Uni (208).

“We didn't swim a full team since three of the juniors stayed home to rest for the PSAT,” said sophomore Natsuki Nakamura.

The Stingrays took fifth in the 200-yard medley relay and the 200 freestyle relay with times of 2 minutes, 8.52 seconds and 1:51.97, respectively.

Senior Nicole Gong was the only Uni swimmer to finish in the top five of her event. Gong took fifth in the 100 butterfly with a time of 1:08.09.

The Stingrays will compete at Danville against O'Fallon and Schlarman on Oct. 28.

This past Saturday, the Stingrays swam in the Schlarman Pentathlon at Danville. Varsity swimmers all swam in the same five events: 200 yards of individual medley and 100 yards of freestyle, breaststroke, butterfly, and backstroke. No team score was given at that meet.
