Posted Friday, Oct. 20, 2006, The OG, sports

MONTICELLO — Senior Martin Granick's four goals led No. 1 seed Uni to a 6-2 victory over St. Thomas More in the Monticello sectional semifinals Thursday. As a result of the win, a Uni soccer team will compete in a sectional championship match for the first time in school history. The 17-3-1 Illineks will play 3 p.m. Monday at Monticello High School against No. 2 seed Warrensburg-Latham. The winner of Monday's match will advance to the eight-team IHSA Class A state tournament, which begins Oct. 27 at North Central College in Naperville. At least one fan bus will be available for all Uni students (except subbies) who want to attend Monday's game. The bus will leave Uni at 2:20 p.m., and all students must have a signed permission slip and an IHSA admission fee of $5.

Hey, is there more info on the game at North Central? When exactly would the guys play? I go to NCC now, and I'll be so pumped if I get to see the boys play. Good luck guys!

Alyssa: Good question. The four quarterfinal games are scheduled to begin Friday at 11 a.m., 1 p.m., 4 p.m., and 6 p.m. At this point I'm not sure which game Uni would play in if the guys make it. Looking at the tournament bracket, I think they will play in the second game (1 p.m.), but that's really just a guess. We'll know for sure after Monday's game. Thanks.
