CHAMPAIGN — A year after Uni shocked the Champaign Central varsity 2-1, the Maroons got their revenge, defeating the visiting Illineks today 7-1. Despite the score, goalkeeper Isaac Radnitzer had an outstanding game, making a season-high 25 saves.

Sophomore Eddie Diazmunoz scored for the Illineks 24 minutes into the game to tie the contest 1-1, with Noel Knox assisting. But Central quickly notched 3 goals to take a 4-1 lead into halftime.

The Maroons, a Class AA team in soccer, dominated possession in the second half, adding 3 more goals within a span of 9 minutes.

The Illineks, now 8-4-1, will host Warrensburg-Latham on Monday. The Cardinals are 10-0 going into Saturday's championship game of the Okaw Valley Conference tournament against Decatur St. Teresa (7-0-2).

Before the Central game, Uni got some good news. The Illineks found out they are seeded No. 2 in their Class A sectional, which Monticello will host.

Judah Christian, a 5-0 victor over Uni earlier this season, is seeded No. 1 in the 15-team bracket.

Class A is organized into eight sectionals around the state. The winner of each bracket will go on to play in the state tournament Oct. 26 and 27 at North Central College in Naperville.

Uni lost to Warrensburg-Latham 2-1 in last year's Monticello sectional title game. (The Cardinals are seeded No. 2 in the Rochester sectional this year.)

The final regular-season contest for the Illineks will take place Oct. 11 when Monticello visits the DCR Soccer Complex in Urbana.

According to the postseason schedule just released by the IHSA, the Illineks will host 15-seeded Mt. Carmel in the first round of the playoffs on Oct. 12. The match is scheduled to begin at 4 p.m.

If Uni wins that game, the team would play again on Oct. 16 against the winner of the Oct. 13 Catlin Salt Fork (No. 10) vs. Monticello (No. 7) match.
